The Spectre: consequent autonomy despite weight
Range is quite high in relation to its weight of over three tonnes, with 520 km according to the WLTP homologation cycleand an average fuel consumption of 21.5 kWh/100 km. On the technical side, the Spectre is powered by a 430 kW (520 hp) engine with 900 Nm of torque.
From 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, it reaches its top speed of 250 km/h. With this performance, it will be easy to get around town, but will not be suitable for mountain roads.
Spectre design: combining electric power and luxury
What about the Spectre's design? Unsurprisingly, Rolls-Royce remains true to its brand image.
Inside, the Spectre boasts a luxurious, well-appointed interior with illuminated surfaces, such as the "starry sky" effect on the roof (the Starlight) and the interior of the 2 doors with antagonistic openings. A fully digital instrument panel is present on the driver's side, and even the passenger is entitled to a modern digital display.
Visually, the electric car's exterior features a yacht-inspired design. At the front, a steel grille illuminated by 22 LEDs.
In addition to Rolls-Royce's 100-year history, this new electric car features aerodynamic 23-inch wheels to give it a sportier look and feel.
Why the name "Spectre" for Rolls-Royce's new car?
One might ask why give the name "Spectre" to a first electric car. As this electric car has a soothing, silent interior, the name was chosen as a reference to ghosts, to spiritual worlds.
As Rolls-Royce Managing Director Torsten Muller-Otvos states: "The advent of our first battery-electric car marks the beginning of a bold new era for Rolls-Royce. It is also the culmination of a long and painstaking process in which every element of the car's creation has been considered in great detail over many iterations." He also adds that the name is not exactly new to the English brand, but that this is the first time it will be used for a production model.
And the price of this electric car?
At the time of writing, the price of the Spectre has not yet been determined. However, according to the British manufacturer, the Spectre will cost between 344,000 to 462,000 €as for the Cullinan SUV and the Phantom limousine. First deliveries are scheduled for scheduled for the 4thᵉ quarter of 2023..
What's striking is that the Spectre is already eagerly awaited by many motorists. In fact more than 300 customerscustomers, most of them Americans, have ordered the electric car even before its official announcement. That's a record, and unprecedented for Rolls-Royce!
What does the future hold for Rolls-Royce?
The launch of this new electric car also marks the English brand's commitment to making all its cars electric. In fact, Rolls-Royce plans to electrify its entire car portfolio by 2030.. The Spectre will therefore determine the future of Rolls-Royce.
With this Spectre opening the ball, let's wait and see what Rolls-Royce's next electric models will be!
