New electric cars at the Shanghai Auto Show
BYD Seagull
The brand BYD (Build Your Dreams) brand presents one of its new products, scheduled for 2024. It's a small electric electric city car 3.78 m long, 1.74 m wide and 1.54 m high. It will be available in two versions, one with a 74 hp motor (with a 30 kWh battery ) and the other with a 100 hp motor (with a 38 kWh battery). It will offer a range of 305 km for the first version and 405 km for the second.
The Seagull has already conquered the heart of the Chinese market, in just 24 hours, it has already registered over 10,000 pre-orders at a price equivalent to €10,300 (78,000 Yuan).
We can then hope that for its launch on the European market, it will be priced below €20,000. Enough to compete with the Dacia Spring widely recognized as the benchmark low-cost city car.
BYD Dolphin
The BYD Dolphin was also presented at the show. Just like the electric car it is designed by Wolfgang Egger, following a style called "Marine Aesthetic". Already present on the Chinese market, it is announced this time for the European market. Electric cars are smaller than European ones, so it will be adapted with a length of 4.29 meters instead of 4.12 meters.
It is set to become a competitor to the MG4which proved very popular with the French after its arrival. It uses the same engine as the BYD Atto 3 with a 150 kW (204 hp) engine. Range is expected to be 427 km on a single charge. It will also be equipped with a high-efficiency heat pump and "vehicle-2-load" technology, enabling you to charge electrical objects with your car.
Its arrival in France is scheduled for summer 2023, with a price tag of less than €30,000.
MG Cyberster
Chinese manufacturer MG Motors wishes to to revive its history of sports cars with the MG Cyberster. We've been talking about this electric car and now it's finally here. It's an electric roadster resembling a convertible, close to the brand's designs from its British days. For the moment, we have no information on technical details. We look forward to seeing it in the summer of 2024, and hope it doesn't follow the same path as the Tesla Roadster.
Volkswagen ID 7
Volkswagen presented its 100% electric sedan called ID.7. It follows on from the ID range, which currently only includes SUVs, a city car and a van.
The ID.7 offers both elegance and performance. It's aerodynamic thanks to its curves. It has a sloping roof, equipped with "Smart Glass" technology to adjust the intensity of the glass opacity. This electric sedan is 4.96 meters long, with a wheelbase of 2.69 meters.
In terms of performance, the first version will be equipped with a 77 kWh battery, followed by an 86 kWh battery. Its electric motor is rated at 170 kW (equivalent to 286 hp). This gives it a range of 615 km, and 700 km for the most powerful battery. Volkswagen is responding to the demands of users who want a long range for their electric car.
Inside, enjoy comfortable seats with massage and ventilation functions, as well as ambient lighting. Numerous technologies have been integrated into the vehicle, including a voice assistant and an augmented reality head-up display.
BMW i7 M70 xDrive
Scheduled to hit the world market in the second half of 2023, the BMW i7 M70 xDrive is a luxurious sedan with a powerful personality. Its 485 kW motor, equivalent to 660 hp, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds. Its 101.7 kWh battery delivers 570 km range on a single charge. However, the German brand is announcing a "Max Range" feature that extends its range to range to 650 km.. BMW has announced a list price starting at €191,700.
100% electric Ford Explorer
Ford presented a new electric SUVready to take on any adventure, the 100% electric Ford Explorer. This vehicle is designed to take you on the road, whether in the forest, the desert or the mountains. Stop driving, start flying!
Having already impressed us with electric cars, Shanghai is now unveiling new technologies.
Presented in October 2022, XPeng's X2 flying car made its maiden flight in Dubai. The flight was admired by 150 people, including members of the International Chamber of Commerce and international media. It is on display at the Shanghai Motor Show to admire our future up close.
This little car is capable of flying at 130 km/h a hundred meters above the ground carrying two people. For the moment, however, its flight time is just 30 minutes. However, XPeng has great ambitions for its flying cars and hopes to define the future of mobility.
Market launch is scheduled for 2025, provided that flight authorizations are obtained.
