Volkswagen ID.3 gets a makeover

Volkswagen ID 3 second generation face

The new ID.3 is finally ready and raring to go! Indeed, the German brand will unveil the new electric car to the general public next spring. The Volkswagen ID.3 second-generation should be the second and final chapter in the range.

As a reminder, the brand's first model was one of the best-selling electric cars in Europeincluding in October 2020 with 10,475 units that month alone. At present, the ID.3 is produced at plants in Zwickau and Dresden plants in Germany. However, the production network will be expanded next year to include Volkswagen's main plant in Wolfsburg. All of this is designed to meet the strong customer demand for the compact electric vehicle.

Volkswagen listens to its customers

The electric compact went on sale in Europe in 2019 as the first of Volkswagen's new generation of MEB battery-powered cars. It now benefits from a much-improved interior, taking revenge after criticism that the model's cabin seemed " cheap and uninspired" . In proposing its reworked version, the development team took into account a series of suggestions from drivers to improve the product and the electric car as a whole..

For the ID.3 facelift, Volkswagen decided to go for a completely completely revamped designThe ID.3's design has been completely reworked, and the materials used inside have been upgraded and brought up to date. The design has been completely revised and the materials used inside have been improved and brought up to date. The exterior of the ID3 benefits from a minor upgrade. However, it's worth noting that the hood is significantly longer and features two distinctive contours familiar from its thermal cousin, the Golf, instead of the previously smooth surface. The needs of our customers have become a priority for the brand. to offer them the most appropriate product.

Technology and innovation: the compact car doesn't fall by the wayside

Volkswagen has made it its to offer cutting-edge technologies and innovations and innovations in all its new models, and electric compacts are no exception, so the ID.3 is no exception.

The new ID.3 will be equipped with the latest generation of software and infotainment. This will enable the electric vehicle to enhance its performance, and it will be able to receive the latest system updates live. What's more, standard equipment has been upgraded to include a larger 12-inch (30.5 centimetres) screena removable trunk floor and a center console with two cupholders.

In terms of technology and gadgets, the Plug & Charge and the intelligent route planner for electric vehicles make the charging experience even simpler and more convenient than on the Volkswagen ID.3 first generation. The Bavarian brand uses state-of-the-art assistance systems fully integrated into the vehicle. These include Travel Assist with Swarm Data available only as an option, and Park Assist Plus with memory function. Good news for future customers! Extras on the first-generation Volkswagen ID.3, such as the removable removable luggage shelf and center console with cup holders will now be standard equipment on this upgraded model.

The ultimate aim of these cutting-edge comfort and assistance systems is to make driving increasingly automated.

ID.3 in several versions

Like its big sister, customers wishing to acquire the new Volkswagen will be able to choose between several models, and no fewer than five versions will be available! As a reminder, the Volkswagen ID.3 was available in three versions: Pure, Pro S and Pure.

On December 8, Volkswagen will offer several "First" pre-launch special series on the French market. These versions will all feature a 204 hp electric motor.

Returning to the second-generation ID.3, it will be offered in five versions: Life, Business, Style, Max and Tour. The starting price of theID.3 Life is 46 750 € (excluding environmental bonus). The new ID.3 will offer the same driving performance as the current model, as the chassis remains completely identical. The same applies to the transmission and electric battery.Range also remains the same: around 420 km with the 58 kWh batterybattery, and 540 km with the 77 kWh battery. For fast recharging, it will be possible to recover 80 % of the battery in 35 minutes with a 125 kWh charger. Consumption per 100 km is approximately 21.3 kWhwhich is quite high, but rest assured that the average consumption of an electric vehicle is around 16 kWh!

Current situation complicates deliveries

The current supply situation and the existing high order backlog will lead to delays in deliveries of electric vehicles. Indeed, the German brand estimates that the ID.3 Pro Life, Business, Style, Max and ID.3 Pro S Tour models will not be delivered to customers before the fourth quarter of 2023.

Production of the upgraded ID.3 will, of course, have started by then. This means that the vehicle delivered will not be the one indicated by the configurator or on the contract when the customer places the order; instead, customers will receive the improved ID.3 model. The vehicle may differ from the initial order, but this will be to the customer's advantage. For example, the steering wheels were previously trimmed in leather, which will be replaced by a higher-quality leather substitute.
