Assistance for buying an electric car
Once virtually unaffordable, electric cars are becoming increasingly affordable, but they're still above average. That's why the players in the energy transition have set up purchase subsidies to help you make the move.
The ecological bonus
The ecological bonus is a subsidy that motorists receive for the purchase of a low-pollution vehicle. The aim of this state aid is to encourage the switch to clean vehicles.
Several vehicles are eligible for the ecological bonus, including :
- electric vehicles (maximum price €47,000),
- electric vans or hydrogen-powered vehicles,
- rechargeable hybrid vehicles(range > 50 km for a maximum price of €50,000).
Assistance is capped at 27% of the purchase price, and up to €5,000 for 100% electric vehicles.
You can find all the conditions to be met, as well as the complete scale ,in our article on the subject!
What's more, the ecological bonus can be combined with the conversion bonus, so you can benefit from two types of financial assistance for the purchase of a single vehicle!
The conversion bonus
The aim of this financial aid is similar to that of the ecological bonus: to encourage motorists to opt for a more responsible mobility solution. However, the conditions and amounts of this bonus differ from those of the ecological bonus. Here are the vehicles eligible for the ecological bonus and the conversion premium:
- electric cars,
- Plug-in hybrid cars,
- electric and plug-in hybrid vans.
However, other vehicle categories are also making their appearance:
- thermal vehicles (Crit'Air 1 only),
- motorized 2 or 3-wheelers or electric quadricycles.
This subsidy can be as much as €6,000 if the conditions listed in our article on the conversion premium are met.
For the purchase of a new electric car, you can benefit from up to €11,000 in purchase aid, by combining the ecological bonus and the conversion premium. You can therefore reduce the cost of your vehicle, and benefit from a cheaper electric car.
Trade-in of your old vehicle
Vehicle trade-in allows you to sell your old vehicle in return for a sum of money (dry trade-in), or a reduction in the purchase price of your electric vehicle (trade-in with purchase).
The advantage of this formula is that there are no eligibility criteria for your current vehicle to be taken back. So even the most polluting vehicles can benefit from trade-in, to take them off the roads and improve the environmental impact of transport.
The 2023 zero-rate loan
Scheduled to come into effect on January 1, 2023, and to run for 2 years, this zero-interest loan is designed to make it easier for you to buy a clean vehicle.
You can benefit from this aid if you live or work in a low-emission mobility zone (ZFE-m), or if you are close to one.
All vehicles (electric or rechargeable hybrid) emitting 50 g/km of CO2 or less and weighing less than 2.6 tonnes will have access to this loan. Limited to €45,000 for a car (€60,000 for a van), this 2023 zero-interest loan requires certain conditions to be met in order to be applicable.
This loan can also be combined with national and regional subsidies for the purchase of an electric vehicle!
Regional aid
Finally, depending on where you live, you may be eligible for additional subsidies for the purchase of an electric vehicle. In some cases, these subsidies can be combined with the bonus écologique and the prime à la conversion.
For example, the Île-de-France region offers assistance of up to €3,000 to companies in the region.
So, for the purchase of a new electric vehicle, the ecological bonus (€6,000), combined with the conversion bonus (€2,500), and regional aid (€6,000), your company saves €13,500 on the purchase!

An electric car for €100/month is a planned project, but no effective date has yet been announced.
Retrofit
Finally, you have the option of going electric while keeping your old vehicle. It's an option that will delight the most nostalgic among you.
This sustainable mobility solution enables you to change the original mechanics of your vehicle, in order to fit an electric motor and battery. However, this work must be carried out by a qualified professional, in compliance with specific specifications.
You'll need between €15,000 and €20,000 for this conversion. Regardless of its low price, you'll benefit from an environmentally-friendly vehicle, and you'll also be able to take advantage of benefits such as :
- free parking,
- reduced running costs,
- the absence of traffic restrictions...
The battery: the heart of your electric car
Generally speaking, the lithium-ion battery is the most expensive component (it can account for over a third of the vehicle's price) in an electric car, yet it is the central matrix of your vehicle.
Buying: advantages and disadvantages
Of course, it's possible to buy your battery at the same time as your electric car, with the purchase price including the price of your vehicle and its battery. Here are the advantages and disadvantages.
The benefits:
- you are the full owner of the battery,
- this solution is financially attractive in the long term (no rent to pay).
Disadvantages:
- if your electric vehicle has a technical problem, any replacement will be at your expense,
- at the end of the manufacturer's warranty on the battery, it is not possible to benefit from free battery replacement.
Enjoy your battery longer
The cost of your electric car also depends on how you use it, and that's where the battery comes in. In fact, beyond the average lifespan of a battery (between 10 and 20 years), a few simple gestures can save you from possible repairs, or early replacement.
The tips listed below protect your battery, which will lose capacity more slowly. We therefore advise you to pay particular attention to the following:
- the car's equipment,
- at the cost of your vehicle,
- the adoption of eco-driving,
- regenerative braking,
- regular use of your car...

The charging network: a financial opportunity
Finally, having access to an established recharging network saves you a considerable amount of time and money. Say goodbye to stress, and to endless calculations of journey times, recharging costs... However, this doesn't mean you shouldn't anticipate the recharging of your vehicle.
We recommend that you start by checking whether your workplace has charging facilities, so that you can recharge your car while you're at work. Some employers offer free charging, others will charge you, but often at a bargain price!
What's more, the French LOM law (loi d'orientation des mobilités) requires buildings to be pre-equipped with charging solutions.
What's more, more and more stores are providing charging stations for their customers in their parking lots. So you can recharge your vehicle while you shop.
Finally, these solutions enable you to avoid installing charging stations at home, because the electric vehicles currently on the market enable you to drive to work and back without recharging. You can start by recharging your vehicle with a Type 2 cable, but this takes longer than with a charging station.
It is therefore advisable to install a charging station at home for the long term. But don't panic, funding assistance is also available.
Beev is here to help you with your charging station installation project, so don't hesitate to contact us!
