Porsche Taycan test drive: exterior design
While the rest of the Porsche range adopts a coherent style, the Taycan stands out from the rest, with very different and much more daring lines. But this doesn't mean that the'brand DNA, since'This is not to deny the brand's DNA, since it incorporates some of the brand's most emblematic design elements, starting with the luminous fascia at the front.'rear. While some might find a resemblance between the electric sedan and the Panamera, both of which boast the same design features, the Panamera's design is also very similar.'The Taycan draws its inspiration from the 911's design. This is evident not only in its silhouette, but also in its long hood and sloping rear window.
The concept Mission Econcept, unveiled in 2015, our sedan features the same light signature and air intakes.'air intakes just below the headlamps, making it instantly recognizable. In fact, the German car is long enough to carry both batteries and passengers in the back.'It also has a sporty design. But its silhouette has also been designed to optimize aerodynamics, as the Taycan boasts a low drag coefficient. Taycan boasts a drag coefficient of just 0.22..
Porsche Taycan test drive: interior and technologies
Once on board, it's immediately clear how different the Porsche Taycan is from other cars on the market. The premium sedan is a veritable spaceship, with its three screensall supplied as standard with every version. These include a large 16-inch digital instrument clusterdisplaying all important driving information. This is combined with two touch-screen panels in the center, providing access to the entire infotainment system. Overall, the driving position is practical and ergonomic, with the exception of the air conditioning air-conditioning nozzles, which can only be adjusted via the touchscreen..
But one of the biggest assets of this Porsche Taycanis its driving position. Thanks to a wide range of seat adjustments, it's very comfortable and well-suited to all body sizes. Of course, the finish is almost perfect, with top-of-the-range materials such as leather and Alcantaradepending on the finish chosen. It is also possible to call on the brand's personalization department to choose an interior to suit your image. As you'd expect, on-board space isn't necessarily the largest in the segment, and the Taycan is not ideal for carrying large passengers. The trunk is smaller than that of a Tesla Model Swith 407 liters in the rear and only 81 liters in the front.

Now it's time to get behind the wheel of the Porsche Taycan. The Taycan is available in several versions, estate and sedanversions, with power ratings of up to 761 hp for the range-topping Turbo S trim, the most powerful in the range. This is precisely the one we were lucky enough to be able to try out, and to say the least, we weren't disappointed! However, if you're a long-distance driver looking for a car with a long range, we'd advise you to opt for the 4S versionversion, which is more affordable 463 kilometers on a single charge.. For our part, our test model is limited to 381 kilometers, which is still very respectable. Fuel consumption is relatively high, at 25.6 kWh/100 km on average.
Despite a weight of 2.3 tonnesthe brand's new star performs well and is very dynamic. The 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds thanks to Launch Controlwhich can be a real surprise the first time around. All the more so as the sports car is equipped with a two-speed automatic gearbox, which prevents the acceleration from running out of steam like a Tesla Model S, for example. Fortunately, braking performance is also excellent, especially as the car is equipped with deceleration energy recovery. In other words, the car slows down on its own as soon as the accelerator pedal is released. This system also recharges the battery, increasing range by a few kilometers.
Ultra incisive and precise Porsche Taycan is a true sports car, but not just that. For it is first and foremost an electric sedandesigned for long journeys. That's why it benefits from very comfortable damping, yet firm enough to offer excellent roadholding. Quite simply, it can take almost any bend at unbelievable speeds! While there are several driving modes, our favorite is of course the sportiest configuration, which allows the car to show off all its dynamic qualities. But in comfort mode, too, it behaves extremely well, rest assured. Above all, it's very reassuring, whatever happens. The steering is pleasant and supple, and the car can also be driven around town without a care in the world, despite its generous dimensions. The battery, with a capacity of 93.4 kWh can be charged up to 80% in just 22 minutes at a fast terminal such as those provided by Ionity thanks to its 800-volt architecture. The sedan comes as standard with a 22 kW charger.
The new Porsche Taycan: a charging monster
The restyled Taycan, to be launched in spring 2024, promises to be the fastest-charging electric car on the market.
Here are some of the elements that justify this title:
1. 800V ultra-fast charging:
- The Taycan can be recharged at an 800V fast-charging station, taking it from 10% to 80% range in just 18 minutes. This is an absolute record for a production electric car.
- By way of comparison, the Tesla Model 3 Long Range, one of the benchmarks in terms of range, takes around 30 minutes to go from 10% to 80% range at a 250 kW fast-charging station.
- The Taycan's 800V charging technology is based on the CCS (Combined Charging System) standard, which means it is compatible with a wide network of charging stations in Europe.
2. High-capacity battery:
- The Taycan features a high-capacity battery, with an estimated net capacity of 98 kWh. This gives it a range comparable to other top-of-the-range electric sedans.
- The entry-level Taycan 4 offers a range of 450 km.
- The Taycan Turbo S, the most powerful version, offers a range of 412 km.
3. New charging technologies:
- Porsche has developed new recharging technologies for the Taycan, including an intelligent battery management system that optimizes recharging speed.
- This system takes into account several factors, such as battery temperature, state of charge and charging station power, to ensure optimum charging.
- Porsche has also developed an intelligent recharging system that allows the Taycan to be recharged at home using solar energy.
Porsche Taycan test drive
In conclusion, the Porsche Taycan is quite simply an incredible car. Fast, powerful, comfortable and reassuring, the sedan ticks all the boxes. Not to mention that it's also ultra-technological and very easy to handle. Close to perfection? Without a doubt. The only flaw, and not the least, is its price. The range starts at €91,055. This means that the sedan is not eligible for the ecological bonus, which is not granted to electric cars costing more than €60,000.
