About Opel

Opel logo

Opel was founded in 1862 by the German Adam Opel, but did not start producing vehicles until 1899. The group was the European market leader from 1930 to 1950. Once under the control of General Motors, it was bought by Groupe PSA in 2017 after a few difficult years. The takeover was a resounding success, enabling the German brand to regain its glory and benefit from PSA's major advances, particularly in terms of electric vehicles. Opel CEO Michael Lohscheller recently announced, as part of the PACE! strategic plan, that Opel will be electric.
