Electric vehicles do cost more than their internal combustion counterparts, but the gap is narrowing. The consulting firm Deloitte predicts identical prices between the two engines by 2024.
With the numerous subsidies granted by the French government, the price of electricity and the many advantages of the electric vehicle, it is already less expensive than its internal combustion counterpart. One of the remaining psychological barriers is the initial purchase price. Once purchase prices become more attractive, the electric vehicle will become a mass-market vehicle in France and Europe.

Buying an electric car is a special step in a motorist's life: what range should I choose? How do I recharge? What will my car's realrange be? The first stage in buying an electric car is research.
Autonomy
It's important to find out everything you need to know before making the move: budget, range, recharging and maintenance. This information is crucial if you are to make the switch to an electric car.
Once tested, it's hard not to fall under the spell of the electric car: quiet driving, greater environmental awareness and low maintenance and recharging costs.
I drive a lot. Can I switch to an electric car? In that case, it would also be wise to find out more about hybrid vehicles which are an alternative to internal combustion engines, but require less recharging. It's worth noting that the electric car is still the least expensive in terms of running costs, but some motorists are more reassured with this type of vehicle.
Good to know: WLTP is a vehicle certification test standard that measures fuel consumption and electric range.
The price
The second barrier is price. Let's not forget that in France, there are a number of subsidies available to help reduce this initial cost. Long eligible for all battery-powered vehicles, the bonus écologique has been renewed for 2023, but only for electric vehicles. Depending on your profile, you may also be eligible for a conversion bonus of up to €5,000. Finally, depending on your region, you can deduct up to €7,000 from your purchase with the help ofregional subsidies, including :
- Ecological bonus: this aid enables you, whether a private individual or a professional, to purchase a clean vehicle.

- Bonus à la conversion: in addition to the ecological bonus, you can accumulate it with the bonus à la conversion. This income-tested subsidy enables you to buy an electric vehicle in exchange for your old petrol or diesel one.

How to load?
Recharging is an important point to consider before deciding to buy an electric car.
- If you live in a large city, most town councils have policies in place to encourage residents to buy an electric car. You'll be able to charge up at charging stations in your city.
- If you live in a detached house, you can benefit from a number of grants to install charging stations in your home so that you can recharge at home.

Ranked second in Europe, France has a large number of motorists using electric cars as a means of transport.
