To meet the strong demand from electric vehicles in France, the Hauts-de-France region is gradually increasing the number of recharging points. While the government's objective is to reach 100,000 recharging points open to the public in 2022, the last barometer from Statista has identified, in 2022, almost 82,107 recharging points in France. This figure falls short of the target, but shows that there has been a major acceleration in the installation of charging points.
As far as the Hauts-de-France region is concerned, Avere-France identified 4,884 charging points for more than 5 million inhabitants in March 2022. This is a low figure for a large number of users to be able to recharge their electric cars. To counter this figure, the region is continuing to set up charging points. Let's see how things are going in Lille.
While demand for charging stations continues to grow, the Lille European Metropolis (MEL) is committed to the energy transition by speeding up the installation of charging stations.
What's more, over the next 4 years, the metropolis wants to "increase the number of recharging points currently available in the area from 400 to over 4,000", according to Damien Castelain, Chairman of the MEL.
To achieve this objective, a Territorial Climate Air Energy Plan has been drawn up. This plan presents a action programme from 2021 to 2026. A number of initiatives are underway, but as far as charging points are concerned, the metropolitan area has installed 50 in municipalities with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants.
